Feb. 27-28 Region Play Offs Begin!
The first regional play offs for the Great Four-State Championships began last weekend in Minnesota in Rochester and Virginia with nine grade levels crowning regional champions. In Rochester Saturday, Feb. 27, two very strong teams reached the finals at each grade level with the Goodhue 5th grade boys winning 35-21 over Rochester Lourdes, the Red Wing 6th grade boys defeating Mankato West 39-28, and the Rushford-Peterson 7th grade boys upending Bloomington Kennedy 35-30. On Sunday, Feb. 28, in Rochester the Caledonia 5th grade girls won 27-19 over Faribault Bethlehem Academy, the Plainview-Elgin-Millville girls defeated Rochester Lourdes in a very close game 23-19, the 7th grade Chatfield girls, who are the Minnesota defending state champions, rolled to a powerful win over Southland 36-13. In the final game The Rochester John Marshall 8th grade girls came from behind to defeat a strong Chatfield team 28-24.
In Virginia, the Crosby-Ironton 5th grade boys won the Region 7 championship with a narrow win over Mesabi East 31-28, and the Mountain-Iron-Buhl girls 5th grade won the championship with a win over Moose Lake-Willow River.
